The American Heart Association recommends that adults consume no more than 2,300 milligrams (mg) of sodium per day.  However, many people consume much more than that. The average American consumes about 3,400 mg of sodium per day, or 1.5 teaspoons!  Because of my Meniere’s diagnosis, I try to keep my sodium levels at about 1,200 – 1,500 mg per day.
